A mono-material request needs a defined scope. State whether it applies to the container body, the replaceable refill or the whole sold package, including closures, dispensing parts, labels and decoration.

Obtain the bill of materials

Ask for each component’s material and weight. Include springs, seals, liners, valves, adhesive and other small parts where present. If a supplier uses a percentage threshold for its claim, request the calculation and the rule it follows rather than accepting the phrase on its own.

Check the complete dispensing system

A bottle and cap specification does not establish the construction of an attached pump. Ask for the proposed assembly drawing and identify any non-matching materials. If parts are meant to separate, verify the removal action on the finished sample and confirm the instructions that can be supported.

Evaluate the intended recycling route

Material uniformity is one design consideration. Collection, sorting, package size, color, decoration and the receiving recycling process also need review for the target market. Avoid converting a material-design description directly into a blanket recyclable claim.

Preserve performance requirements

Set the required dispensing, sealing, storage and handling criteria before comparing alternatives. Test the proposed complete pack with the intended product. A material simplification should be approved against those same functional requirements.

Oulete can review a mono-material brief against available model and component options. Request model-specific evidence before using the claim in artwork.

Send your material brief or return to packaging materials.
