Surface preparation is part of the proposed finishing route and should be discussed for the exact component. A metallic reference sample alone does not specify how a different part will be processed.
Identify the substrate and surface
Provide the material specification, component drawing and desired finish. Identify visible surfaces and any areas that must remain untreated. Ask the supplier to explain the proposed preparation and finishing sequence for that part.
Approve the production route
Request a sample produced with the intended sequence. Review coverage, visible defects and the assembled fit. Agree the relevant adhesion and handling checks and how the results will be recorded.
Manage later changes
If the material, component source or surface treatment changes, review whether the approved sample and test results still apply. Record the agreed route with the drawing and finish reference so repeat orders have a clear specification.
