A face wash, sunscreen and hand cream can use similar-looking tubes while requiring different openings, barriers and closures. Start with the filled-product test brief. The material name or a sample photograph cannot establish whether the finished package will work with a formula.
Match dispensing to the product
Face wash: check the opening and wet-hand use
Request samples with the proposed orifice and cap. Fill them with the actual cleanser, then check how readily it dispenses, whether product collects around the opening and whether the closure can be used with wet hands. Include the intended storage orientation. Record leakage and cap contamination separately from appearance.
Sunscreen: assess the final filled package
Specify the formulation, intended fill, destination market and storage conditions. An opaque tube may be a candidate for testing; its appearance is not proof of light protection or SPF preservation. Ask the responsible formulation team to define the stability and compatibility assessment before ordering decorated production packaging.
Hand cream: inspect repeated use
Check the force needed to squeeze a partly emptied tube, residue around the cap and closure performance after repeated opening. Test the intended small handbag format as well as larger sizes rather than assuming they dispense identically.

The label PBL does not mean every component is one material. Recycling suitability depends on the complete design and the receiving recycling system. Check the Association of Plastic Recyclers tube design guidance for the relevant market; avoid a blanket recyclable claim based only on PE or PBL terminology.
Approve the filled and decorated sample
The Cosmetics Europe stability-testing guidance addresses product–package compatibility as part of stability assessment. Use the proposed commercial package, including the closure and product-contact materials, when defining that work with the formulation team.
- Record the formula identification, fill amount, tube dimensions and opening.
- Agree filling and sealing requirements with the filler.
- Check dispensing, leakage, closure use and decoration after the agreed handling conditions.
- Record observations and acceptance limits, retaining an approved sample for comparison.
Changing the cap, barrier structure or decoration after approval should trigger a review of the affected tests. For the purchasing brief, compare cosmetic tube options and send the intended formula type and closure requirements through sample planning.
